Examination of the types of domestic series broadcast between 2000 and 2017 on national television channels in Turkey and socio-cultural reasons of the absence of science fiction genre in these genresmaster's thesis, united arts departmant

In this study, series types covering the period between 2000 and 2017 were examined in the series sector in Turkey. In this context, the first part of the study focused on the definition of television series, internationally accepted series categories, the definition of the science fiction genre and subtypes. The second part examined the first domestic series aired at TRT within the scope of television broadcasting in Turkey in the historical process, their relationship with the audience, the first domestic science fiction series "The Man in the Jar" broadcast on TRT and the development of private television broadcasting in Turkey. In the third episode, which includes the thesis problem, the socio-cultural reasons of the lack of science fiction series in domestic series broadcast/produced on national television channels in Turkey between 2000 and 2017 were investigated through the concept of culture and subtypes of culture. As a result of this review, it was observed that the types of science fiction were not included among the series types broadcast on national television channels in Turkey in the specified years. According to this; The lack of production of science fiction series for television channels broadcasting on a national scale in Turkey between 2000 and 2017; The impact of social structure and culture on television program content is related to factors such as economic factors affecting the production of series of production companies and TV channels, socio-cultural and economic preferences of the audience, which constitutethe target audience of the series.
