Abstract (EN)
With the rapid increase of the world population, the urban population and the rates of urbanization have increased accordingly. With this increase, expansion in cities, unplanned development or insufficiency of plans have emerged as important problems for the urban areas. It is clear that the negative situation arising from these problems in the cities should be reconsidered within a different perspective. In this rethinking, urban regeneration plays an important role. Urban regeneration is a comprehensive, integrated vision and action set that aims a permanent improvement in physical, environmental, economic and social conditions in the cities. But urban regeneration projects in Turkey have centered on only the physical transformation of urban parts, excluding social, economic and environmental problems. A good successful urban renewal regeneration project is created by considering physical, social, economic and environmental factors together. Here, it is seen that urban regeneration and sustainability which are also defined by these three factors are the concepts that should be taken together to form the concept of sustainable urban regeneration. This study aims to discuss whether a sustainable urban regeneration project is being implemented in Turkey. There are many methods to examine the sustainability of urban regeneration projects. Within the scope of this thesis, the indicator-based study of Hemphill, Berry, McGreal (2004) is redeveloped for Ankara Aktaş Neighborhood. From the analysis results of the sustainability of Aktaş Neighborhood Urban Regeneration Project, explained what is required for the study area to be sustainable and recommendations for all projects implemented in Turkey has improved.
