The investigation of the application of lean thinking and lean construction of project profitability in Turkey

The construction industry is a sector that is open to developments and where different types of thinking can be applied. Cost and quality are two important criteria in construction areas, which have a versatile and comprehensive work environment. Today, producing low-cost quality products has become the basic rules for companies. To achieve this, the elimination of waste and completely customer-oriented production thinking is effective. Lean Thinking, which is about eliminating or preventing waste, meets the needs of this event. This method of thinking is based on finding and eliminating the cause of waste. Lean Thinking is an ideology that originated in the Toyota Company operating in Japan in the 1920s, and was adapted to the construction industry under the leadership of Glenn Ballard at Berkeley University. Lean thinking realizes all these production and management movements with the principles and methods it has. This way of thinking, which focuses entirely on customer needs and desires and advocates avoiding excess stock and unnecessary movement, is one of the most important methods in reducing waste. This type of thinking we do not see much activity in the construction company in Turkey, we see that it is wasteful to what extent companies have also adopted this idea. In this study, the costs associated waste on a site located not applied in Turkey and Lean Construction methods have been examined. As a result of the investigations, it has been observed that there is a waste of human and material arising from the revised projects in the construction site, the modifications made due to the damage to the manufacturing and the wrong manufacturing. The costs of these wastes were calculated and the money equivalent of the waste made in the construction site was found.
