Elderly individuals in turkey out-of-pocket health expenditures and a projection for the year 2050

The world population is increasing every year. Population growth also brings with it demographic structure change. The demographic structure of the population changes in the direction of aging. Increased elderly population; Food, security and health. The aging population spends most of its time on health services. The aim of the study is to reveal the general situation of the elderly population in Turkey, in particular to determine the health expenditures of the population made by the population and to project for 2050 over the current state of health expenditures. In the study (TURKSTAT) 2015 Household Budget Survey Micro Data Set was used. The sample of the study was accepted as 3.972 individuals over 65 years of age and 2.837 households inhabited by these individuals. In the analysis of the data, individual, household and consumption expenditures are defined with descriptive statistics. As a result of the analysis, out of pocket health expenditures of households where at least one individual is 65 years of age or older is calculated as average 720,99 TL. The total out-of-pocket health spending by individuals over the age of 65 for the year 2015 is calculated in 1.442.029.435 TL. The total out-of-pocket health expenditure of individuals aged 65 years and over within the framework of TURKSTAT's population projections is estimated as 2.511.384.236 TL minimum and 3.406.321.123 TL maximum, 12.603.230.255 TL minimum and 47.820.182.036 TL for the year 2050, based on the available data. Demographic scenarios are predicted out-of-pocket health expenditure projections show that demographic aging can be a significant problem for Turkey in the future in terms of regulating, maintaining and financing health spending.
