The taxonomic revision of Artemisia L. (Asteraceae) genus growing in Turkey

Abstract (EN)

Artemisia genus represented by twenty three species without infra spesific taxa in the Flora of Turkey before present revision study. Artemisia taxa grown in Turkey determined as twenty one species and twenty six taxa belong to three subgenus in the result of present work. According to our study, one of these species has two subspecies, two of these species have two by two varieties seperately and another one has three varieties.The systematic statuses of some taxa re-identified in the line with the new data. Artemisia campestris L., Artemisia marschalliana Sprengel and Artemisia araratica Krasch. species in the flora of Turkey unified as Artemisia campestris L. var. campestris, Artemisia campestris L. var marschalliana (Spreng.) Poljak., Artemisia campestris L. var. araratica (Novopokr.) Poljak under the Artemisia campestris species such as in Russian Flora. Also, Artemisia santonicum species in the Flora of Turkey has been divided into two subspecies as Artemisia santonicum L. subsp. santonicum and Artemisia santonicum L. subsp. patens (Neilr.) such as in European Flora. In additon, species given as Artemisia herba-alba Asso in the Flora of Turkey doesn?t exist in Turkey and called by that name actually Artemisia sieberi Bess. subsp. sieberi was detected.In the result of this revison study, a new species (Artemisia bashkalensis Kursat & Civelek sp. nova) and two new variety (Artemisia spicigera K. Koch var. vanensis Kursat & Civelek sp. nova and Artemisia taurica Willd.var. pendulosa Kursat & Civelek var. nova) have been identified for Scientific World.In this revision study, it was determined diagnostic keys, descriptions including morphological characters and geographic distributions of genus Artemisia taxa spread in Turkey. In addition, overall appearance of the pictures of taxa in habitats, detailed figures of leaves and flowers have been defined.The populations of Artemisia splendens Willd. in Turkey have been decreasing due to grazing pressure.Key words: Asteraceae, Compositae, Artemisia , Revision , Flora of Turkey
