The struggle against child labor in Turkey: Tools of public administration

Child labor, which continues to exist today, is seen as an important problem for Turkey as well as all over the world. Children's work endanger their safety and health, prevent them from living their childhood, and adversely affect their future when they are removed from education. At the same time, the use of child labor is one of the most common human rights violations the world faces today. Various legal regulations have been established in the national and international arena to protect children in working life and to prevent them from being employed at a young age. When examined in this context, the most important program is the International Program on the Elimination of Child Labour, created by the International Labor Organization in 1992 and currently operating in 88 countries. When the statistics announced by the relevant institutions and organizations with the aim of eliminating child labor within the scope of this program are examined, it is revealed that the general trend in the world is far from the target of preventing child labour. Although the complete elimination of child labor is a long-term and final goal, achieving this goal is linked to the economic and social developments in the countries. Therefore, while trying to eliminate the structural factors that cause child labor, on the other hand, the protection of children working in the medium and short term should be among the most important policies.
