A survey of socio-cultural problems for Syrian students studying in Turkey

In recent years, our country is home to millions of people who come from different countries for different purposes. The world is changing rapidly, and countries are rapidly turning into a disaster. The Middle East is at the beginning of the geography and these countries. Our country's neighboring this difficult geography brings with it negative conditions. Due to the wars, economic problems, political pressures and many other problems that we cannot count, our country has been faced with a wave of migration in which Syrian refugees have been intense in recent years. As a result of this wave of migration towards our country, many problems have emerged which need to be taken precautions. Although the Syrian refugees were accommodated in temporary sheltering centers during the first years of the war, the prolongation of the war and the increasing immigration of the migration caused many problems. At the beginning of these problems, Syrian refugee children with a young population seem to have problems in their education. Education is a phenomenon that helps individuals to integrate into society on the changing world and facilitates the adaptation of individuals to society. With the migration, the Syrian refugees who come as refugees in our country are given importance from the moment they come to their education in order to adapt to the society.There are approximately four million Syrian refugees in Turkey and one million forty-five thousand Syrian refugee are students. The higher number of problems also leads to the emergence of adaptation problems and problem situations that need to be addressed in terms of education. In this study,it has been emphasized on socio-cultural, economic and linguistic problems of Syrian students in our country who are refugees and were intended to answer the questions how these students can benefit from the Turkish education system at this stage is how the refugee students can be helped.In this study, it is aimed to determine the situation by taking advantage of the opinions of the teachers within the education system and the teachers who contribute to this education. Within this scope, In Bahçelievler district of Istanbul a total of 200 randomly selected 200 Syrian students who are studying at the Prof. Dr .Osman Ozturk Imam Hatip Secondary School Temporary Training Center were asked questions that are composed of 30 5-point Likert type questionnaires about socio-cultural, economic and linguistic problems and students were asked to respond to them sincerely. The answers of the questions were analyzed by using SPSS statistical program. At the same time, questions about the problems faced by Syrian students in Turkish, Mathematics, Social Studies, Physical Education and English Teachers who contributed to education in this school were asked and questions were asked. The data obtained as the next stage were interpreted by the researchers.Problem determination has been provided and appropriate solution suggestions have been tried to be made.
