The educational policies of the Turkish state directed towards the Syrian children in Turkey: The case of Batman

This study tries to shed light on the education problems of Syrian refugees who obliged to migrate to Turkey as a result of the Syrian crisis started in 2011. The study is based on a questionnaire designed to comprehend the Syrian high school students in Batman province. The questionnaire has been applied to 200 people studying at the Temporary Education Centre, where only Syrian students attend, as well as other official schools. Apart from their social and demographic characteristics, the thoughts of the participants have been revealed within the context of these there problems: language and educational problems, economic problems and integration problems. Our study has also reached some further conclusions by making comparison between the answers of participants attending to Temporary Education Centre and the official schools. The significance of education in terms of human and social life is obvious. Because of this significance, we hope that this study, which has been carried out on the issue of education of Syrians, and the analyses we conducted within the framework of the problems they encounter will be beneficial for both the literature and the relevant institutions and organizations. In addition, no previous study has been conducted in this context in the province of Batman so far. For this reason too, we think that our study is original and will contribute to the related circles in Batman.
