Turkish art of küy and Kazakh Turks? küy tradition

Music has been a communication and transmission tool in everywhere human being exists and that nation?s power of expression. According to the literature, it is seen that Turks are spread over and they ruled very large geographic areas. Nowadays Turkish communities still live in several geographic areas and prevail in there. Korkut ATA as being the ancestor of Küy , the first poet and as stated that being the invetor of kobız has a very important role for Turkish communities. Korkut who was wise man with being a baksı and a mentor, determined his people?s life style in terms of all aspects and led them for showing the right way with the influence of music. In this cultural structure; Turkish art of Küy has been investigated with various aspects in terms of ethnomusicology and sociology, however Kazakh Turks? art of Küy which was pioneering in the art of Küy has been studied.This thesis named as ?Turkish Art of Küy and Kazakh Turks? Küy Tradition?, is a guide for understanding the starting point of this concept with also examining Turkish cultures and the art of küy in Kazakh Turks.Contemporarily, the necessary researches was done for the term of küy among Turks living in independent and self governing communities in Central Asia, and the regions were classified. The detailed literature screening was done in the investigation stage of this thesis and also we consulted foreign sources. In addition we utilized personal consultations and musical note archives.As a result of this research, we recognized the term of küy, we determined that besides its meaning as a musical form in Turkish cultures it also had several musical meanings. It has been seen that the art of küy had a special place in Kazakh Turks with being a tradition that the people protected and appreciated. Examining the art of küy in sociocultural structure in Kazakh Turks made this study to take attention to common ground among Turkish communities. We determined that the term of küy was a concept occured in relation to Turkish communities? life styles. According to other Turkish societies? art of küy, we concluded that the term of küy included an instrumental form of music and absolutely it had a tale or a legend.The art of küy was performed with three different instruments. The küys performed with these instruments were illustrated with musical notes and determined with regional differenes. The reason of the regional differences in terms of technical approach was; climate, life style, and socio-cultural diversities.The biggest aim of this thesis is to shed light on the further studies
