Abstract (EN)

In the increasingly globalized world, Arabic, by its place and importance, is also lined up among the languages to be learned as one of the most effective languages of the future. Contemporary methods and techniques used in teaching foreign language are also used in teaching Arabic. During historical process, Turks adopted Arabic, which they recognized as religious and scientific language, and attached great importance to its education and teaching as of accepting Islam. During the Seljuks period, the classical madrasahs (Moslem theological schools), which were opened for Arabic language teaching, were extended by transforming them into systematic madrasahs during Nizamülmülk period. During the Ottoman period also, Arabic was taught in madrasahs, which were the continuation of the Seljuks madrasahs, in everywhere that the empire spread. Arabic education, which also experienced an interim period during the early Republican period, was restarted in religious schools (İmam Hatip Okulları) and Faculties of Theology (İlahiyet Fakültesi) and continued until today. However, the desired success was not achieved in the said schools, where Arabic education has been offered for the last 60-70 years. Researches, surveys and observations indicate teacher, method, program, objective, student and environment among the most important reasons of this failure. In our study, the current situation, encountered problems and solution proposals in Arabic education are discussed by examining Arabic education and the results of this education in Turkey led by religious schools and Faculties of Theology during Republican Period. In our thesis, two key elements in Arabic education, namely word and grammar teachings, and the methods and techniques of offering these two elements in Arabic teaching especially to Turks are discussed. In our thesis, the argument of teaching Arabic language to Turks easier and in a short periods by using some methods and techniques specific to Turks is adopted when the existence of common words being used in both languages and the advantages of the existence of some Arabic grammar rules also in Turkish language as a result of Turkish-Arabic interaction are taken into consideration. Keywords: Arabic, Turkish, word, grammar, teaching
