Abstract (EN)

Though the use of nature scenery in painting dates back to Antiquity, it became a more important issue in Romanticism. This study intends to research the art of Turner and Constable, who are two most important painters of Romanticism, and draw repaintings accordingly. In addition to the completion of literature review, the analysis of the application process and the products formed after the process constitutes the methodology of this study. The first chapter of thesis introduces the outlines of research. In second chapter, stem of word romanticism, its integrated relation with the French Revolution and the impacts of this movement in Germany, France and England are evaluated. The third chapter elaborates the life and artistic activities of John Constable who is considered to be one of the leading figures of the romantic landscape painting in England and details his romantic paintings in terms of theme, method and its plastic context. The fourth chapter of the thesis touches on the artistic life of William Turner, who created depictions different from the use of colour and traditional perception of space used by his contemporaries in their compositions, in chronological sequence. The romantic paintings of Turner are analysed in this chapter. The fifth chapter of the thesis, 9 oil painting studies made within the scope of the research are given together with their analysis.
