Investigating the properties of cement with boron wastes under the circumstance of third components

Abstract (EN)
In this study, the usability of clay waste including boron, which is supplied from KırkaBoron Companies, as an additive material for Portland Cement in case of thirdcomponent has been investigated. So, four different receipts were prepared by addingboron waste in ratios of 0%, 1%, 3%, and 5% by weight respectively to Portland cementcomposition. Specific surface area, outlet time, the volume expansion, zeta potential,heat of hydration, bending and suppression tests and SEM analysis were performed tothe samples in order to determine the physical properties and microstructure. Afterwardsthe datas obtained from characterization workout were compared to the blank sample(having no boron waste) and as a result, the deterioration of hydration of all samplesbelonging to four different receipts depending on the increasing amount of boron wasteadditive was comeout. On the other hand, it was clarified that the strength values ofsamples having boron waste in ratios of 1 % and 3% were nearly same as the blankones. For further step of the study, as a third component pectin (organic additive) wasput in the receipt having boron waste in ratio 3% which acquired the best strengthvalues, in ratios of 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7% by weight respectively just to amelioratethe hydration properties. For this purpose four different receipts incorporating pectinwere prepared and the experiments were carried up again. According to the results ofexperiments, as the amount of pectin additive was gone up hydration times of allsamples were shortened but strength values were decreased.Finally as a conclusion it was determined that the sample having boron waste in ratio of3% and pectin additive in ratio of 0.1% was appropriate to the standart TS EN 196-1 interms of strength values and to the TS EN 196-3 in terms of hydration time values.Key Words: Portland Cement, Boron wastes, Microcalorimeter, SEM
