Investigation of activities related to certain days and weeks in 3rd grade life sciences course in the context of classroom teachers' opinions and textbook

Changing social living conditions and paradigm transformations in education systems have made it necessary for countries to build their education systems on a student-centered approach. The mainstay of student-centered education is that students gain knowledge and skills in line with their interests and abilities. In a changing world, students acquire these skills through life science courses in their first year of education. Since the first years of the Republic, life studies has been preparing individuals for the changing social life and has played an important role in the self-improvement of students. In the Life Sciences course curriculum, human; It is considered as a whole with its biological, psychological, social and cultural aspects and is considered both the subject and object of change. Another aim of the Life Science course is to teach and make students adopt certain days and weeks, especially national days, that are celebrated or held every year in their country. In this research, the inclusion of activities on certain days and weeks in the third grade Life Sciences course was tried to be determined according to the opinions of the classroom teachers and the examinations made in the context of the textbook. In this study, which was designed according to a case study, one of the qualitative research methods, the data were obtained from textbooks and classroom teachers' opinions. In this context, a semi-structured interview form was developed for classroom teachers. The data obtained from semi-structured interviews were analyzed with content analysis and the textbooks were analyzed with descriptive analysis technique. As a result of the research based on the opinions of the participants, it was determined that it is important for students to learn certain days and weeks. It has been concluded that activities for certain days and weeks are beneficial and that students develop their 21st century skills. Based on the findings obtained from the research, it is recommended to increase the activities for certain days and weeks and to improve the content of the activities.
