Investigation of pregnancy rhinitis presence in third trimester with rhinomanometry

Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to determine pregnancy rhinitis and its frequency occurring with the physiological changes in nasal airway during pregnancy postpartum period and to determine the the correlation between anterior rhinoscopy (AnR) anterior rhinomanometry (ARM) and subjective nasal obstruction score (SNOS). In the study, 30 pregnant women test group and 30 non-pregnant women control group were included. Women were in 3rd trimester period of pregnancy, non-smokers, healthy, 19-35 aged and without respiratory allergies or chronic nasal or sinus problems. The pregnant test group was examined once in the third trimester. In the examination, detailed history, anterior rhinoscopy (AnR) and anterior rhinomanometry (ARM) was done by the same ENT physicians. The level of congestion that morning was asked to describe to pregnant women by subjective nasal obstruction scoring (SNOS) of no-0, mild-1, moderate-2, severe-3 or completely occluded-4. The results were compared with anterior rhinoscopy (AnR), anterior rhinomanometry (ARM) and nasal obstruction subjective scoring (SNOS) results of non-pregnant control group of 30 women. While the findings were evaluated, SPSS 24.0 program was used for statistical analysis. It was revealed that complaints of nasal obstruction during pregnancy remained unchanged in 36.7% of pregnant women and increased by 63.3%. In 28.6% of the multipar pregnancies, rhinitis was found in the previous pregnancy. Presence of rhinitis in the present pregnancy was 66.7%. AnR score averages were 3.60±1.35 in pregnancy, 0.77 ± 0.73 in non-pregnancy. TNID averages were 0.46±0.23 in pregnancy, 0.27±0.06 in non-pregnancy. SNOS averages were 1.37±0.72 in pregnancy, 0.57±0.63 in non-pregnancy. All the differences were significant for p <0,05. In addition, there was a "positive low" correlation between AnR, ARM and SNOS at intervals ranging from .176 to .295. In pregnancy, the change in AnR or ARM brings about a 3.1% change in each other. This ratio was 8.7% between AnR and SNOS; Between ARM and SNOS is 3.8%.
