Investigation of energy resolution of the time of flight mass spectrometer

In this study, energy resolution of the time of flight mass spectrometer (TOFMS)was considered for the beam source parallel to spectrometer axis. In order to providecomparison, beam source perpendicular to the spectrometer axis is also considered. Theresult estimated indicates that energy resolution is low for the parallel position of thebeam source compared to the perpendicular position of the beam source. On the otherhand, the improvement of the energy resolution results in decreasing the space resolution.Hence one needs to have beam source perpendicular to the spectrometer axis in thespectrometer arrangement. In addition, time-lag energy focusing method is alsoimplemented for the energy resolution. Since the method depends on cluster number n,this limits the resolution to the n number.
