Investigation of studies on design based science education in our country by document analysis method

The aim of this study is to examine the studies on design-based science education in our country by document analysis method. The universe of the research consists of the studies obtained according to certain criteria in ULAKBİM (National Academic Network Center) and YÖK TEZ (Higher Education Council Thesis Center). A classification form was created for the problems and sub-problems of the research. In order to ensure the validity of the appearance and scope of the form, an examination form was created by the researcher after the expert opinions received and the studies were processed in the classification form. After all the studies were examined and transferred, the classification form was interrupted for about 2 weeks, then it was reclassified and the compatibility percentages were calculated. Descriptive analysis approach was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, the data were analyzed descriptively in categories and tables. Descriptive statistical methods were used in accordance with the sub-problems. As a result of the screening, 250 studies were reached and 190 studies were analyzed. Not included studies were not included for reasons such as not being suitable for the definition. These criteria are not to include the keywords determined in the analyzed studies and not to be within the specified time intervals. 190 studies were categorized as articles, master's theses, doctoral theses. In our country, the vast majority of the studies on design-based science education are articles. Their subject of study is engineering design-based science education. When the keywords were analyzed, the keyword engineering design-based science education was used the most in the studies. When analyzed by years, the most studies were conducted in 2019. When analyzed according to the study methods, the qualitative method was the most preferred. When the studies were analyzed according to the type of research, experimental research was used the most. When analyzed according to pattern types, case studies were mostly used. When analyzed according to the study groups, it was mostly studied with secondary school students. When analyzed by data type, qualitative data type was used the most. When data collection tools were analyzed, interviews were the most preferred. It is thought that this study will provide information about the content of the studies conducted in Turkey in the researches to be carried out in the field of design-based science education, and this study will give an idea to the researchers who will work on this subject.
