Chemical and biological analysis of some wild thyme species used among the population in eastern part of our country

Aim: The Laphanthus, Origanum, Salvia, Satureja, Thymus and Ziziphora species in labiatae family are represented in Turkey with very rich species, some of which are endemic. These plants, called kekik among the people in Turkey, have been used for commercial purposes for many years. However, as a result of the studies carried out in recent years, it has also started to be used as medicinal plants for therapeutic purposes. In this context, it is aimed to examine the chemical and biological aspects of the L. turcicus, O. acutitens, O. munzurensis, O. onites, O. vulgare subsp. gracile, O. vulgare subsp. vulgare, S. absconditiflora, S. euphratica, S. avromanica, S. boissieri, S. hortensis, S. macrantha, T. cilicicus, Z. capitata ve Z. clinopodioides species grown in our region in detail. Material and Method: In this study, the essential oil and ethanol extracts of 15 species mostly used as oregano and tea were prepared and antioxidant, anticholinesterase, antithyrosinase and antiurease enzyme activities were investigated and chemical profile of the extracts were determined by GC-MS and LC-MS/MS. Furthermore, toxic and cytotoxic effects of the extracts were determined by MTT method. Results: Volatile oil content of 15 plant samples collected from different regions was determined by GC-MS/FID device. The composition of the essential oil of the 15 samples studied was illuminated between 80.33% and 97.54%. When we look at the LC-MS/MS results, it is observed that some species are very rich especially in terms of rosmarinic acid. The species studied are in general above the Earth than to be rich in terms of soil extracts total phenolic and flavonoid content of extract were determined. It has been determined that all the samples studied in general have medium and high antioxidant potential. When the results were evaluated as a whole, it was found that they showed moderate enzyme inhibition in general as well as examples of acetyl and butyril-cholinesterase enzyme inhibitory activity at standard galantamine levels. It was determined that the activity of the species antireazase and antitirozinase enzyme was low. Conclusion: Thus, the chemical contents and biological activities of 15 species used as thyme and tea among the public were examined and the results were gained to the scientific world.
