Investigation of hogg1 (ser326CYS) and ape 1 (ASP148GLU) polymorphisms in ulcerative colitis and colon cancer patients

Abstract (EN)
Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of hOGG1 (Ser326Cys) and APE 1 (Asp148Glu) polymorphisms in ulcerative colitis (UC) and colon cancer (CRC) patients, whether these polymorphisms had an effect on disease development, and whether there was a relationship between disease severity and involvement sites and polymorphism. Material and Method: İnönü University Faculty of Medicine Department of Gastroenterology 99 patients with UC who admitted to the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) outpatient clinic between January 2019 and March 2019 and 50 patients with CRK diagnosed between January 2019 and February 2019 were included in the outpatient clinic. These patients were examined for the presence of hOGG1 (Ser326Cys) and APE1 (Asp148Glu) polymorphisms. Results: The study included 99 UC patients, 42 females, 57 males, 50 CRC patients, 21 females, 29 males, and 50 control groups of 21 females and 29 males. In these groups, the genotype and alleles of hOGG1 (Ser326Cys) and APE 1 (Asp148Glu) polymorphisms, the location of the disease in CRC and UC, the relationship between these gene polymorphisms and the disease severity calculated using Trulove-Witts activity index in patients with ulcerative colitis were analyzed. In our study, the Cys/Cys genotype of hOGG1 (Ser326Cys) gene polymorphism was found to be significantly higher (p=0.034) in severe ulcerative colitis cases. Conclusion: There are not enough studies in terms of hOGG1 (Ser326Cys) and APE1 (Asp148Glu) polymorphisms especially in UC and CRC groups. More comprehensive studies are needed to be able to use this meaningful result in clinical practice and contribute to science.
