Praxeological analysis of the international Baccalaureate Programme and the Ministry of National Education secondary school mathematics textbooks: Algebraic expression, equations and inequalities

Within the scope of the study, it is aimed to compare the International Baccalaureate Program adopted in more than 150 countries around the world, which is similar to the 2023 Vision Document announced by the Ministry of National Education in terms of education understanding and philosophy, and the curriculums and textbooks of the Ministry of National Education, and to compare how algebra topics are handled in curriculums and textbooks. In the study, the document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In line with the purpose of the study, the standard and advanced mathematics textbooks of the IB Program and the 6, 7 and 8th grade textbooks of the Ministry of Education were examined in terms of formality and suitability, and ecological and praxeological analysis of the topics in the field of algebra (algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities) in the textbooks of both programs has been made afterwards. The distribution of the problem types in the problem solving tasks determined in the praxeological analysis according to their contexts was examined and a comparison was made. As a result of the research, it was determined that the textbooks did not differ greatly in terms of formality and compliance with the program, the ecology of the algebra subject was different in both books, and the transition process from arithmetic to algebra was different according to ecological analysis. As a result of the praxeological analyses made in 12 determined mathematical organizations, it was determined that a total of 710 tasks, 47 task types and 49 techniques in the MEB books and a total of 1759 tasks, 58 task types and 78 techniques were given in the IB books. 35.63% of the tasks in MEB and 3.75% of the tasks in IB were given as solved. 43 of the tasks given in MEB and 149 of the tasks in IB are problem solving tasks.
