A qualitative research on adaptation strategies of foreigners under international and temporary protection: The case of Afyonkarahisar province

Individual and mass migration movements to Türkiye bring about the problems of integration between migrant and host community. Describing the integration process as cohesion, Türkiye finds a way out for structural problems which migrants are to survive while it leaves them the socio-cultural integration into their capabilities. For migrants who do not follow a specific integration process, the first principle for the relationship between them and local people is their own benefit. For that reason, the integration of the immigrant with the host society takes place through the behaviors she develops by using the values and methods of the dominant social structure in the chaos and uncertainty of daily lives. Michel de Certeau named this as "tactic". Seeing migrants as other and foreign in dominant social structure, continuing relations with temporary and variable tactics could also regarded as a boycott against dominant social structure. The aim of the study is to explore the tactics which migrants develop through own experiences with host community in causal relationship and the effect of migrant status on these tactics. In this study, which was carried out with the qualitative research method, a phenomenological research pattern was used and in-depth face-to-face interviews and observation techniques were conducted with 18 people of 9 of whom was under temporary protection status and the other 9 was under international protection status. The data obtained was analysed through Maxqda data analysis program. As a result of analysis, the factors which effect migrants' tactics were found out and seen that the migrants who are international protection status were tend to be more to apply tactics. Based on the data obtained from the research, tactical and responsive integration experiences of migrants is defined as reactional integration.
