The concept of territorial integrity in International Law: The cases of Serbia and Georgia

The concept of territorial integrity, which is one of the most important and controversial concept in international law and relations, has been examined in terms of development in the historical process and in the international law. In this study, which aims to determine that the territorial integrity principle is one of the constituents of international law, the principle of territorial integrity have been examined together with basic principles of other international law and protection mechanisms of territorial integrity with referring national and international sources. Kosovo, an autonomous region of Serbia, became an independent country with the support of Western States and Abkhazia and South Ossetia as two separate autonomous territory of Georgia being recognized as two independent states by Russian Federation was assessed in terms of territorial integrity of Serbia and Georgia and the effects of all these processes on the territorial integrity's concept was revealed.
