The impacts of globalization in shaping Turkish foreign policy in the light of international relations paradigms

Abstract (EN)

This study primarily places different definitions on ?globalization?. Understanding, defining the phenomena of globalization and discerning what it means that make up the main subjects of the IR discipline. In this context, there exist three great worldviews; more correctly, there are three paradigms in the IR discipline that has an interdisciplinary character. These are Realist, Pluralist and Globalist paradigms. In the first part in which we try to understand and give the sense to globalization, the paradigms will draw us an analysis framework. We will put forward the approaches and principal theses of the paradigms over the phenomena of foreign policy after explaining what foreign policy in traditional sense is, accompanied by the three theoretical framework which differently give the meaning to globalization.The first part, by a deductionist way, explains what globalization is and by what classifications it is assessed. Examining how globalization shapes foreign policy, however, with a objective presentation accompanied by the paradigms that will ensure the reader the opportunity of comprehensive evaluation Some concepts in the study are taken part only by the most widely-accepted descriptions of them for the purpose of not leaving the main point of the subject.The second part handles how globalization influences and shapes foreign policy by making some specific classifications in handlines. It is scrutinized that how globalization affects the processes of determining, making and implementing foreign policy through this classification.The third part is devised in the main three subtitles. In the first subtitle, we will examine the liberalist foreign policy understanding that begins with Turgut Özal Term and, in the framework of this understanding, Özal?s foreign policy approach as a leader, by handling some significants developments during the years of 1983-1993. In the second subtitle, we will set forth the years of unstability passed along with coalitions, PKK terrorism, increasing problems with the neigbours, security matters and also severe economic hardships, naming it Coalition Goverments Term in context of foreign policy. We will probe the AK party term as new foreign policy vision, shaped by the Prime Minister?s Advisor Ahmet Davutoğlu?s academic works and, finding space in implementing of AK party?s foreign policy.In the final section following a general overview, we will put forward how globalization has created impact over Turkish foreign policy in the way of assertion of this thesis.Keywords: Globalization, Foreign Policy, Interdependence, Vision, Paradigm
