Abstract (EN)

This study, which aims to reveal the difference between theory and reality by examining the example of the concept of nation-building in Iraq, examines the works and developments in the context of the developments in the economic, social and political fields in the country following the 2003 American invasion. There are four important element of the nation-building process; security, restructuring, identity formation and development. The Iraqi sample was selected and evaluated in terms of the perception of the nation-building within the International Relation discipline and the differences and deficiencies of the real life practice. The study is important for a beter understanding of the changes in the country by covering a period of time after the construction period until today, back to the after the Ottoman period, in order to be historical supported. After the US invasion, it was seen that the security phenomenon in Iraq as not taken into account sufficiently and structuring activities started without creating a completely safe environment. On the other hand, monitoring policies that will deepen ethnic and sectarian differences in the country, making some studies without considering the people and their preferences sufficiently, and the continuation of the infrastructure problems reveal the lack of identity creation and development issues. This shows that the process does not function as it is understood in the discipline and does not result in the way it should be.
