Social exclusion of international students: The case of Istanbul

Abstract (EN)
International education, with its effects and expectations, has an economic, socio-cultural and political influence on the future of countries. So much so that international education seems to be a dynamic field in connection with demographic transformation. In this period, where it is becoming increasingly difficult for many countries to maintain their sustainable economy understanding with their own population dynamics, policies focused on attracting the most talented people with more skills are observed. In this context, it becomes very important to address the social exclusion situation created by the increasing global international student mobility between countries. The aim of this study, education, social exclusion status of international students' in another country for the purpose of International education, in scope of Istanbul to do due diligence and is contributing to Turkey's international student policy. Within the scope of the study, data were obtained from 382 international students studying at 22 universities in Istanbul through a questionnaire. For the construct validity of these data, factor analysis was performed and the model was tested through exploratory factor analysis. Accordingly, there is no significant difference among international students in terms of gender. On the other hand, those who study at state universities have higher perception of economic exclusion. There is no difference in terms of the dimensions of social exclusion in terms of educational levels. Significant differences were found between perceptions of economic exclusion in terms of the regions origin.
