Özet (EN)

The concept of international competitiveness means the ability of achieving success of firms in one country in international markets, so as to provide country?s people to improve their living standards and quality of life. In this context, governments must pursue market based economy policies in cooperation with firms to improve country?s competitiveness and sustain this growth.In the first chapter of this study, international competitiveness concept and factors which determine international competitiveness are given in theoretical concept. In the second chapter, the role of government fostering international competitiveness is explained.In the third and the last chapter, a benchmarking analysis is carried out for Turkey and some chosen countries in the context of macroeconomic factors which determine international competitiveness. In the last part of third chapter, Turkey?s international competitiveness enhancing policy recommendations are presented. It is concluded that Turkey can enhance international competitiveness if only adopt and implement rule of law, improve the economic and technological infrastructure investment and its quality, decrease the informal economy and undeclared work, improve innovation progress, organize strategies for improving SME?s competitiveness and improve education quality.
