The role of local authorities in the organizations of international sport events - EYOF 2017 Erzurum (The case of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality)

The thesis that was titled as the roles of local authorities in the organizations of international sport events - EYOF 2017 Erzurum (The Case of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality), was formed in three chapters. In first chapter, the general framework of local authorities and the relationships between the city and the international sport events were examined. In this context while defining the local authorities, the historical development of the local authorities were described and the duties and the responsibilities of local authorities in the perspectives of national and international legislation. In addition to this, starting with the olympic games that have historical background through before Jesus and EYOF that forms the basis of the thesis were tried to analyze in the context of their impacts on the cities. In second chapter, there is brief information about EYOF (European Youth Winter Olympic Festival). The criteria of the hosting cities for this organization that are same for Erzurum as the hosting city, was examined in this chapter. Furthermore, the theoretical framework was tried to be formed on EYOF Erzurum 2017 that is the case of this thesis. In third and the last part, it was focused on 13th European Youth Winter Olympic Festival that was described as EYOF 2017 Erzurum, its impacts on Erzurum and Turkey in various dimensions, the roles and the contributions of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality in this process. At the end, the findings of the thesis were examined in the title of Conclusion.
