Effect of international sports organizations on the economy: Bursa nomad games

Abstract (EN)

The effects of international sports organizations on the economies of host cities or countries have been frequently discussed in the literature. This study investigated whether the 4th World Nomad Games held in Bursa in 2022 had an economic impact on the city of Bursa. 171 retail sector owners/authorities operating at the time of the 4th World Nomad Games participated in the survey conducted for the research. The data obtained in the research was analyzed with the SPSS package program. As a result of the research, the impact of the 4th World Nomad Games held in Iznik/Bursa between September 29 and October 2, 2022 on the businesses operating in the retail sector at that time and on Iznik/Bursa was analyzed. According to the answers received from the survey study; 1. It was determined that the ANOVA test showed a significant difference in the relationship between the main business lines and the answers given to the questions of extra personnel/worker recruitment, contribution to the recognition of different cultures and contribution to the promotion of traditional Turkish sports during the 4th World Nomad Games, 2. It was determined that the ANOVA test did not show a significant difference in the relationship between the main business lines and the answers given to the questions of order/sales increase, customer number increase, income increase, contribution to promotion, contribution to infrastructure, contribution to development during the 4th World Nomad Games. 3. According to the findings of the study, Nomad Games have made a positive contribution to the retail sector in terms of recognition and economy. The study emphasizes the importance of organizing such international organizations in our country
