Plants sold in Ümraniye and Kadıköy (İstanbul) districts herbalists for therapeutic purposes and their usage fields

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to determine the medicinal plants sold in the herbalists of Ümraniye and Kadıköy (Istanbul) districts between 2021-2022 and their usage areas. A total of 20 herbalists, 10 of which are Ümraniye and 10 of which are Kadıköy, were visited and interviewed. As a result of the interviews, 195 plant samples belonging to 78 families were determined. In the study, the families that contain the most taxa are respectively; Asteraceae 18, Rosaceae 15, Lamiaceae 14, Fabaceae 9, Apiaceae 8, Malvaceae 7, Brassicaceae 6, Anacardiaceae 6, Zingiberaceae 5. As a percentage distribution, on the basis of Families; Families represented by 9.1% Asteraceae, 7.6% Rosaceae, 7.1% Lamiaceae, 4.5% Fabaceae, 4% Apiaceae, 3.5% Malvaceae, 3% Anacardiaceae, 3% Brassicaceae, 2.5% Zingiberaceae. In addition to the usage areas of the plants, their usage patterns, used parts and local names were added, compared with scientific sources and given in a table. Diseases in this study; weight loss, cardiovascular diseases, liver diseases, high sugar, kidney diseases, cholesterol, cold-chill-cough, gynecological diseases (menopause, etc.), male diseases (prostate, etc.), hemorrhoids, indigestion, constipation, stomach diseases, rheumatism, stress-depression-anxiety, forgetfulness-memory weakness, sleep disorder, fatigue-lack of energy, immune booster, cancer and the most used plants in the treatment of these diseases were determined. In addition to the plants, mixtures of plants were also determined.
