Examination of the relationship of hope and quality of life in health

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to examine the relationship between hope and quality of life in health. Relational screening model was used in the research. The study group of the research consisted of a total of 248 individuals, 141 women and 107 men, aged 18 and over. Personal Information Form, Hope Scale and SF-36 Health Quality of Life Scale prepared by the researcher were applied to the participants. Independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to examine whether the participants differed statistically in terms of hope and quality of life in health according to demographic characteristics. Tukey test, one of the multiple comparison tests, was used to observe between which groups the difference occurred. Regression analysis was used to examine whether the hope levels of individuals are a significant predictor of the sub-dimensions of quality of life in health. The results of the analysis showed that hope did not differ significantly according to gender, education level and income level. Considering the marital status, it has been observed that the hope level of married individuals is higher than that of single individuals. In terms of quality of life in health, differences were observed in terms of gender and marriage. Accordingly, the quality of life of men was higher than that of women, while in terms of marital status, singles in the physical function sub-dimension had higher quality of life scores in the vitality, mental health and social function sub-dimensions of married people. When the relationship between hope and happiness was examined, a positive and significant relationship was found between hope and happiness. Considering the relationship between hope and quality of life in health, it was concluded that hope significantly predicted vitality, mental health, social functionality and general health sub-dimensions. Accordingly, a positive relationship was found between hope and vitality, mental health, social functionality and general health dimensions. Keywords: Hope, Health, Quality of Life, Happiness
