Predicting freshmen students' university adjustment according to assertiveness and learned resourcefulness levels

Abstract (EN)

In this study, freshmen adjustment of the college, namely academic adjustment, social adjustment, adjustment of college environment, personal adjustment, emotional adjustment and romantic relationships, were examined in terms of learned resourcefulness and assertiveness. The sample of the study was consisted of 487 freshmen in Yildiz Technical University, in 2013-2014. While collecting data, College Life Scale (Aladağ ve diğ. 2003); Assertiveness Scale (Voltan-Acar ve Öğretmen, 2007), Rosenbaum Learned Resourcefulness Scale (Dağ, 1991) and Personal Information Form which was developed by the researcher were used. Data was analyzed with multiple regression analysis. Results of the study indicated that; both, learned resourcefulness and assertiveness were significant predictors of adjustment of college environment, academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal and emotional adjustment. On the other hand, learned resourcefulness could not predict romantic relationships, significantly.
