Use of youtube videos in university preparation education

With the widespread use of technology in education, digital platforms such as YouTube have become important learning resources for students. This thesis aims to examine the use of YouTube videos during the university preparation process and the effects of this use on students. In the study, the interview method was used to understand the contributions of YouTube videos to students' learning processes. The data obtained through semi-structured interviews conducted within the scope of the research reveal how students use YouTube videos, which types of videos they prefer, and the contributions of these videos to their educational processes. Students stated that they had the opportunity to overcome their deficiencies thanks to the understandable narrations of YouTube videos, especially in the subjects they had difficulty with. In addition, the fact that the videos included visual and auditory elements made learning more effective and faster. When the effects of YouTube videos on students were examined, it was seen that these videos increased learning efficiency, saved time, and reduced the need for private teaching institutions. Since students had the opportunity to listen to the subjects they did not understand in the lessons again with the narrations of different teachers, they considered YouTube videos as an important learning tool. In addition, it was observed that students' independent learning skills developed and their motivation increased thanks to these videos. As a result, it is understood that YouTube videos are an effective tool in university preparation education and contribute significantly to students' academic success. However, it is emphasized that these videos should be used correctly and consciously. By guiding students to choose the right resources, educators can help integrate YouTube videos into their educational processes more effectively.
