The public relations in the university libraries and the situation in Türkiye

Universities are institutions that directly effect the economic, social, scientific and technical developments of the societies and directs them. University libraries have assumed to take responsibility of research and education which are basic elements in functioning of universities. Organizations, in order to continue their existence and achieve then- goals and as a result of the need to set up a mutual benefit relations and to improve them have emerged the public relations which are contemporary approach, management function and activity field that can not be ignored by the organizations and their importance gradually increases. As contemporary institutions, university libraries have to meet the information and documentation needs and serve at their highest level to their universities. In order to achieve this, university libraries have to know the needs of the society they serve, consider their thoughts, have good relations and work hard to maintain their relations. For these reasons public relations works appear as essential function for university libraries. In our country, unfortunately public relations are not considered as an important function in university libraries and common lack of information in this field can be seen. We have reached to this conclusion with the collected data and thesis of our work has been confirmed.
