Abstract (EN)

The Relationship Between Mood and Adherence to the Meditarranean Diet in University Students İntroduction and Aims Mediterranean diet has been shown in studies that have protective effects from diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, colorectal and other types of cancer. The effect of the Mediterranean diet is not limited to these and has been associated with many neurological and psychiatric conditions. The aim of this study is to investigate whether Mediterranean diet, which is one of the healthy diet types, has an effect on mood. Methods The participants of our study were 1106 university students under the age of 25. The data were collected in the form of a questionnaire with face-to-face interview technique. A questionnaire including kidmed that measures the compliance of the Mediterranean type nutrition, profile of mood state and sociodemographic questions was applied to the participants. Participants were included in the study proportionally according to the classes and faculties. Results 1106 participants were distributed proportionally according to classes and faculties. The average age of the participants was 20.78 (17-25). The participants were similar in terms of gender (571 women, 535 men). The group with seniority score of 3 and below was grouped as poor adherence, 4-7 points of medium adherence, and high adherence of 8 and above. 46.4% of the participants were poor adherence group, 44.2% were medium adherence group and 9.4% were included in the good adherence group. The asosiation was statistically significant compared to the POMS score averages except confusionbewilderment. The difference between these mean scores was caused by the mean score between the poor adherence groups and the medium adherence groups. Regression analysis was performed to show that this significance was not caused by other factors. As a result of the regression analysis, when the median and good harmony groups were handled together, their significance remained significant compared to their poor compliance. Conclusion In our study, good adherence gorup was low. This result is compatible with other studies in our country. While the good adherence rate in our study was 9.4%, it was found 13% in the study of Seda Genç and friends in university students, and 5.3% in the study by Yılmaz Çağıran and friends. In our study, the mood profile profile score was higher in the group that was moderately adapted to the mediterranean diet compared to the group that adapted poorly, but this relationship was not found in the group that adapted well. This situation was thought to be due to the less high adherence group being less than the other groups. Regarding the poor adherence group and medium adherence group, there was no significant loss even in the regression analysis, which suggests that there is a relationship between the Mediterranean type diet and mood, and that it can be shown more easily in further studies.
