Abstract (EN)
With the expansion of the area of use, smartphones, which cease to be just a means of communication, have become part of business, entertainment, and social relationships. While smartphones make our daily lives easier, it is thought that in case of problematic use at the level of addiction, it may be associated with physical, psychiatric health problems and some social problems. The university period is risky for smartphone addiction, but it is also an important process for the acquisition and development of healthy lifestyle behaviors. This study aimed to investigate the association between the level of smartphone addiction and healthy lifestyle behaviors in university students. The cross-sectional analytical type study was conducted between April and May 2019 by applying a face-to-face survey method with 911 of the students enrolled in the Maritime, Science-Literature, Law, Architecture, Engineering, and Business Faculties of Izmir Dokuz Eylül University Tınaztepe Campus. The data form used includes the sociodemographic and some characteristics of the students, the Smartphone Addiction Scale- Short Form (ATBÖ-KF), and the Wellness Format Behaviors Scale-2 (SYBDÖ-2). The data obtained were evaluated using ANOVA tests with a-square, t-test in spss 22.0 program. P.05 was accepted for statistical significance. 34.1% of respondents perceived it risky for smartphone addiction. In the analysis, the lack of female sex (p=0.049), the absence of a lover (p=0.042), seeing yourself as a smartphone addict (p<0.001), having a complaint of insomnia during the day (p.001) and poor assessment of sleep quality (p.001) were associated with the risk of smartphone addiction. Those at risk of smartphone addiction, the averages of SYBDÖ-2 points were found to be statistically significantly lower. As a result of multivariate logistical regression analysis, only the female gender variable has lost it's statistical meaning. More work is needed to investigate objective data and finalized diagnostic criteria and predictors and causality related to smartphone addiction and consequences.
