Examination of social support and assertiveness with need for psychological hep in university students

This study examined the level of perceived social support and assertiveness in university students in determining the need of psychological help. Relational screening model was used in this study. The relational screening model is defined as a research model aimed at assertiveness the presence and / or extent of interchanges of two or more variables. Descriptive and predictive relationships between perceived social support and trust and the need for psychological help were examined in this research. The appropriate sampling method was used in the selection of the research group. Erzincan University students are the universe of the research and 846 undergraduate students are studying at Erzincan University. The data collection instruments used in the research were the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, the Voltan Acar Self- Assertiveness Scale, the Psychological Aid Needs Scale, and the Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher. The findings obtained from the study are listed below. According to the findings, the psychological help needs of the university students differ significantly according to gender, grade level, place of residence, father education level, longest living place, faculty type, parental survival status variables; it was assertivenessed that there was no difference according to the number of siblings, perceived socio-economic level, education level of mother, and co-existence status of parents. In addition, it has been found that perceived social support and trust is related to the psychological help needs of the university students in a meaningful and negative way, and it has been assertivenessed that the perceived social support and assertiveness are a significant predictor of the need for psychological help. It can be said that the sociodemographic variables and perceived social support and assertiveness are important factors in the need of psychological help in the direction of the findings in the direction of obtained findings. All these results have been discussed within the framework of relevant literature and theories and various suggestions have been made.
