Investigation of the relationship between resilience and parental attitude in undergraduate students

The main purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between university students parental attitudes and their resilience. This study is structured as a descriptive research using relational screening model. Due to the researcher's working conditions and possibilities, the sample group was formed with convenience sampling method. The research sample consisted of 385 undergraduate students (251 women, 134 men) attending the Faculty of Science and Arts, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Vocational School of Health Services at Pamukkale University. In the research; Parental Attitude Scale, Child and Youth Resilience Measure (CYRM) was used. Personal Information Form which is prepared by the researcher was used to collect information about demographic variables. Independent Samples T-Test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (One-Way Anova), Post Hoc Sheffe Test, LSD Test and Pearson Correlation Analysis were used in data analysis depending on the data types. According to research results; democratic, protective-willing and authoritarian parents' attitudes perceived by university students differ significantly according to gender. Students 'perceptions of democratic parents' attitudes differ significantly according to the education level of the mother and the education level of the father. The authoritarian parental attitude perceived by university students differs significantly according to the number of siblings. Authoritarian and democratic parental attitude perceived by university students differs significantly according to family income level. Statistically, a significant relationship was found between parental attitude and resilience in university students. The findings obtained from the research were discussed within the framework of the literature and some suggestions for future studies and researchers are included.
