The Examination of depression, automatic thoughts and self-esteem in university students according to sociodemographic variables.

This research was carried out to determine whether depression, self-esteem and automatic thoughts differ according to some socio-demographic variables in university students. For this purpose, the Socio-demographic Information Form (SEAF), Automatic Thoughts Scale (ADS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSS) were applied to a sample group of 460 university students. Independent Samples T test and One Way ANOVA test were used in the analysis of data suitable for normal distribution, and the Tukey test was used as a post hoc test to examine the differences between groups. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the depression level of the university students participating in the study was at a medium level, their self-esteem level was high and their total automatic thought level was moderate. Beck Depression, Rosenberg Self-Esteem and Automatic Thoughts Scale Scores were compared according to the determined sociodemographic variables. The level of depression and automatic thoughts of female university students participating in the study and those who are not satisfied with the department they are studying are higher. According to age groups, self-esteem and depression, self-esteem and automatic thinking levels do not differ according to the class they are educated in, the individual who raised himself as a child and the place of accommodation. Students who do not work outside of school have higher depression levels. It is seen that the level of depression and automatic thoughts increases and self-esteem decreases as the economic level decreases for the monthly income status. Those who used antidepressants before have higher levels of depression and automatic thoughts. There are differences in the sub-dimensions of the participants' automatic thoughts scale, according to the variable of place of residence where they spent their childhood.
