Examination of general life satisfaction and depression situations i̇n university students

Abstract (EN)

University students have a tendency for depression due to their living conditions. Our study was conducted to evaluate the students' life perspectives, depression status and their relationship with life satisfaction. In this research, 5889 students studying in the departments of Economics, Business Administration, International Trade and Logistics, Theology, Architecture, Psychological Counseling and Guidance, Elementary Mathematics, English, Turkish and Primary Education have formed the universe in Gaziantep University between March-April 2018, 592 female and 588 male students were selected from 1180 volunteer students selected by cluster sampling method according to the number of students in the department. Personal Information Form, "Beck Depression Scale" and "Life Satisfaction Scale" were used in the study. The data were analyzed by SPSS 20 statistics program with percentage, average values and X² test was used for intergroup analysis. 41.3% of the participants were students of Administrative and Economic Sciences. 68,8% of the participants are in the 20-23 age group, 46.7% of the students spend an average of between 201-500 TL in a month, 51.3% of them stated that they have social activities. 56.5% of them had work anxiety and 20.8% had exposure to violence. 30.4% of the participants 1 month ago, 29.5% of them have read 11-50 books in their life. 49.5% of them spend 1-3 hours a day on the internet. 29.9% of them use the internet to communicate. According to the Beck depression score, 47.8% had normal and 31.7% had moderate mood disorders. The life satisfaction score of 60,8% is above the average. In the study, a significant relationship was found between life satisfaction of the students and family income, the time of reading the last book and how many books they read. The level of depression was closely related to the faculty, department, mother father's survival, family income, and job anxiety. Key words: depression, life satisfaction, university students
