Examination of the relationship between imagination, anxiety and procrastination in university students

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between daydreaming, trait anxiety and general procrastination. In addition, it was examined whether the levels of daydreaming, trait anxiety and general procrastination differ according to the demographic characteristics of the participants. The sample of the research; It consisted of 571 university students between the ages of 18-30 in Istanbul. As data collection tools in the research; "Personal Information Form", "Imagination Scale", "Trait Anxiety Scale" and "General Procrastination Scale" were used. The data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed with the SPSS package program. In the analysis of data; independent t test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and correlation analysis were used. As a result of the research; It was determined that the level of daydreaming and anxiety of the participants was "high", and the general procrastination tendency was "moderate". No statistically significant relationship was found between the level of daydreaming and the level of anxiety. No statistically significant relationship was found between the level of daydreaming and the general level of procrastination. A statistically significant and positive relationship was found between the level of anxiety and the general procrastination tendency. It was determined that the general procrastination tendency of the participants did not differ statistically significantly according to gender. It was determined that the dreaming and anxiety levels of women were significantly higher than men. No relationship was found between daydreaming according to education level. However, trait anxiety and general procrastination tendencies of the individuals in the doctoral group were found to be significantly lower than the participants in the other groups. It was found that the tendency to daydream and general procrastination did not differ according to income. However, compared to other individuals, the trait anxiety scores of the individuals in the 3000 TL and below group were found to be significantly higher, and the scores of the individuals in the 8001 TL and above group were significantly lower. There was no significant relationship between age and daydreaming, but a weak negative correlation was found between age and trait anxiety and general procrastination.
