Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to examine the indecision of university students in the way of maladaptive schemas and some variables (gender, living place and family type). The sample of this study consists of 361 students (242 females and 119 males) who are studying in Sakarya University, Marmara University, Gebze Technical University, Yıldız Thecnical University, and İstanbul Aydın University in the 2017-2018 academic year. Individuals forming the study group are university students between 18-38 yers old. The data related to some qualifications of university students (gender, living place and family type) was collected with "Personel Information Form "that is developed by the researcher. The data about the level of indecision was collected with "Personal Decision Scale (PDC)" is developed by Bacanlı (1999;2000), and the data about early period maladaptive schemas with "Short Form of Young Schema Scale-3 (SFYCS-3)" is standardized as Turkish by Soygüt, Karaosmanoğlu and Çakır (2009). In order to analyze the data of research, descriptive analysis was used to obtain the number and percentage of the answers about the variablaes (gender, living places and family type). Independence sample t-test was used to determine whether the level of indecision in university students was significantly different according to gender and family type variables. One way ANOVA and after that Scheffe was used to determine whether the level of indecision was significantly different according to living place. Moreover, correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between indecision and early period maladaptive schemas. The regression analysis was used to determine the prediction of early period maladaptive schemas on the indecision. The data analysis show that the level of indecision in university students acquires a different character in connection with different gender and living space while there is no statistically significant difference according to family type. According to the results of data analysis, it was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between University students' indecision and early period maladaptive schemas. When correlation levels between indecision and schemas was examined, the highest correlation coefficient is among failure, and dependency early period maladaptive schemas with indecision, while the lowest correlation coefficient is between the schema of cliquishness and indecision. In addition, it is detected that the dimensions of early maladaptive schemas such as emotional deprivation, failure, dependency, approval-seeking, punitiveness predict to indecision with the aid of regression analysis. Keywords: Decision, indecision, early period maladaptive schemas, schemas therapy.
