An investigation of moral judgment levels of university students according to demographic variables: The example of the Mus Alparslan University

The moral judgment is the ability to accept or reject on the basis of the principles which it has internalized, although it is the opposite opinion according to an existing situation. Our study aims to examine the moral judgment levels of university students according to some determined variables. Our thesis which examines the moral judicial levels of university students is realized with the participation of 332 students from 630 students who went to the first and fourth grades of the undergraduate departments of Mus Alparslan University Faculty of Education in 2016-2017 academic year. Demographic Information Form developed by the researcher to collect independent variables in the study; And the Ethical Judgment Test (MUT-Tr Moral Judgment Test), developed by Lind and adapted to Turkish by Çiftçi, was used to measure moral judgment. It was determined that the obtained data did not show normal distribution, therefore non-parametric tests were used. The Mann-Whitney U test was used for the comparison of the two groups from the data, and the Kruskal-Wallis H test was used for the three and more group comparisons. As a result of our study, there was no significant relationship between moral judgment scores of students' class, gender, socio-cultural environment, mother-father education level, graduated high school types, number of siblings (P> .05). The significance of the teacher candidates' test of the difference between the moral judgment points average and the department / department branches was significant (p <.05). Elementary Mathematics Teaching Department students' moral judgment total score was found to be higher than the other parts.
