The analysis of achievement goal orientations of university students according to several variablaes

This study is a descriptive study aims to investigate whether the achievement goal orientations of university students are changing according to gender, perceived academic success, perceived social support, perceived ability and perceived parental attitude.The research has been done on 887 students among the Gazi University during 2009-2010 school years.In order to determine the achievement goal orientation which is a dependent variable of this research ?Achievement Goal Orientation Scale?, to determine the perceived social support ?Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support? and to determine the perceived parental attitude ?Parental Attitude Scale? were used.Dependent variable relationships which predictive variables in the analysis of data achievement goal orientation disclosed to what extent the method for finding multiple linear regression analysis was used. In this study, as well as students' achievement goal orientations and perceived ability to change according to the perceived academic achievement for independent samples to test the single-factor analysis of variance (One Way ANOVA) were applied. In addition to measuring the success of the relationship between goal orientation and gender t- test was applied.At the end of this research following findings were obtained:Mastery goal orientation of students to adopt more democratic attitude of parents, while those who adopt performance approach goal orientation has a protective attitude of parents, students who adopt performance avoidance goal orientation is the attitude of the authoritarian parent.Perceived social support from family relationship, social support and achievement goal orientation, students who feel adopt mastery goal orientation.Perceived high levels of academic achievement levels of students with low academic achievement to students who are perceived to favor more mastery goal orientation.Perceived ability students with high levels of mastery goal orientation to students with lower levels of perceived ability to adopt more.Students with lower levels of perceived ability than students with high performance avoidance goal orientation adopts.Research findings show that achievement goal orientations of university students differ according to their gender.
