Abstract (EN)

Educational institutions cannot avoid recognizing the importance of activities and habits that are not part of a curriculum to better prepare students to the life after graduation. Extracurricular activities enable students to have an easier adaptation after graduation.In this study, extracurricular activities considered as activities in ?student clubs? and independent student activities that are supported by student resources in management, guidance, and decision making processes. The purpose of the study was to explore factors that affect students? approaches towards, preferences, and perceptions about extracurricular activities.In the first part of the study, the effects of extracurricular activities on business competition, labor force, and education are reviewed. Previous research findings on issues like career development, academic achievement, and social acceptance are discussed.In the second part, the research conducted at a private university, Sabanci University, is reported. The findings can shed light onto policy and efforts to improve future practices. Implications for future research are also argued.
