Career planning according to entrepreneurship characteristics of university students: A research on AKU students

Entrepreneurship is a combination of economic, social, cultural, technological, psychological, personality characteristics and demographic elements. The economic development of countries depends on the entrepreneurship motivation and the entrepreneurial spirit of the human resources. The number of successful entrepreneurs in the community should be increased and potential entrepreneurs should be directed to entrepreneurship as a career. In this context, university students are defined as potential entrepreneurs. It is important for the universities to raise the entrepreneurial potential of the students, to increase the entrepreneurial tendency, to develop entrepreneurial personality traits and to enable students to choose entrepreneurship as a career path choice. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of entrepreneur personality characteristics on career preferences of university students. In the study, the third and fourth grade students who took the Applied Entrepreneurship Course at Afyon Kocatepe University were surveyed. The questionnaire used in the research consists of questions that measure demographic questions, entrepreneur personality traits and career values. The data obtained from the survey were analyzed with SPSS package program. In the study, it was concluded that there was a significant relationship between the students' entrepreneur personality traits and their career values. On the other hand, it was found that the most influential factor on entrepreneurial personality traits was the pure challenge. A positive linear relationship was found between entrepreneurship education and career values, entrepreneurial personality traits and entrepreneurship tendency.
