Abstract (EN)

Healthcare professionals are the most important groups to reduce the risk of hepatitis virus infections, their spread and resulting complications. Viral hepatitis is still the agenda in our country and the world which continues to be a major health problem.by infecting millions of people. Viral hepatitis are the primary infections of the liver caused by hepatitis viruses. For now, they are classified as hepatitis A, B, C, D, E and G viruses according to the identified etiological agents. HBV infection in health care workers has been recognized as an occupational disease by the World Health Organization and The International Labour Organisation. Health professionals should be well aware of viral hepatitis because of the severe clinical course and the chronicity of HBV, HCV, HDV infections which may lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer. The risk of infection even more important for Medical, Dentistry and Nursing students during their practical training in the clinical departments, and for physicians, patients and auxiliary personnel who are at risk of contracting different microorganisms through blood and other body fluids. Education of the students on cross-infection and viral hepatitis is necessary to reduce the transmission of blood-borne infections and to increase the rate of compliance with standard precautions. The effectiveness of existing training activities and behaviors must be determined to protect students from diseases transmitted by blood and body fluids. For this purpose, a questionnaire consisting of 32 multiple-choice and open-ended questions was designed and applied to the first and final year students of Medical School, Dental School and Nursing School of Akdeniz University, Antalya, Turkey. We aimed to assess the knowledge and attitudes of students towards viral and non-viral hepatitis and infection control methods. In conclusion, conducting surveys to determine the attitudes and behaviors of Medical, Dental and Nursing School students is very important for education and the correction of risky behavior. Key words: healthcare workers, hepatitis viruses
