Abstract (EN)
This study was carried out to determine the knowledge and the attitudes of theuniversity students regarding to corrosion according to the department they study. The levelof knowledge and the attitudes of the students towards the corrosion were measured by theuse of ?Corrosion Success Test ?and ?Attitude Test Towards Corrosion? prepared by theresearcher. The study was carried out according to the survey model. The study was realized inthe fall term of 2010-2011 academic year on 213 final year students studying in the scienceteaching department Faculty of Education, chemistry department of Faculty of Science andchemistry, metallurgy and material engineering departments of Faculty of Engineering ofSivas Cumhuriyet University. The analysis of the data and the determination of the validity and the reliability of thetests were done with SPSS 16.0 software, the calculation of the mean values and the standarddeviation and the comparison of the independent groups were carried out by the ANOVA test. The correlation between the tests was computed by the use of Pearson CorrelationCoefficient. The data revealed that the level of knowledge and the attitudes of the students whoparticipated in the study showed a significant variation according to the department theystudied. Also the comparison of the results of the Corrosion Success Test ?and ?the AttitudeTest towards Corrosion were found to be significantly correlated. The study showed that the university students were not adequately acquainted withcorrosion and the topic is not adequately covered in the universities. Corrosion is one of themajor problems we face today and will continue to face in future. Therefore the studentsstudying in science related department are expected to be familiar with this topic. This willpromote the awareness of the society and result in the implication of serious precautionsagainst this dilemmaKey Word: Corrosion, Corrosion Education, Awareness Against Corrosion
