Abstract (EN)

Aim: The study aims to find out the relation between undergraduate students' perceptions of honor and their usage of social networks. Methods and Materials: The study has been conducted with descriptive-relational method. The (statistical) universe of the study comprises 5021 students who are studying at various faculty and collages of Mus Alparslan University. The sample of the study consists of 1628 students who have been identified with power analysis method. The researcher has collected data of the study by using Participant Information Form, The Attitude Scale for Women Related Conception of 'Honor' (ASWRCH) and The Purpose of the Usage of Social Networks Scale (PUSNS). The statistical evaluation of the data has been carried out via percentage distribution, arithmetic average, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey's HSD test, Pearson correlation analysis and Cronbach Alpha reliability analysis. Results: It is found out that undergraduate students use the social networks intensively "to communicate" and single students have higher scores of PUSNS than the married ones (p<0.05). The study reveals that the total mean score of ASWRCH is higher for the students who are and above 23 years old compared to 19 years old and younger ones, for female students compared to males, for singles compared to married ones, for ones declaring middle income compared to the others with high income, for students having parents with a high level of education compared to the ones with law education level and finally for the students have a partner compared to the ones without a partner (p<0.05). The study provides the data that shows affirmative and poor degree of meaningful relationship between the ASWRCH subscales which are traditional perception of honor and equalitarian approach, and the PUSNS subscales that are searching, cooperating, communicating, keeping up the communication, sharing contents and entertainment (p<0.05). Conclusion: The study reveals that by the increasing usage of social networks for the purpose of searching, cooperating, communicating, keeping up the communication, sharing contents and entertainment individuals get more equalitarian attitudes and keep their distance with traditional perception of honor. Keywords: Undergraduate students, Perception Honor, The Purpose of the Usage of Social Networks Scale, The Attitude Scale for Women Related Conception of 'Honor'.
