The study of university students attitudes towards the sport and university students opinions on the women participation in sport activities (Bartın University case study)

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the attitudes of Bartın University students towards the sports and their opinions on the women participation in sport events. The target population of the study consists of the students who are studying in the 7 Faculties of Bartın University for the academic year of 2015-2016. For this purpose, 573 individuals from target population of 7411 in 7 Faculties, were assessed. The research data were collected with 5-likert type "Sport Attitude Scale" and "Opinion Determination on Women Participation in Sports Scale". The Questionnaire Form which is given to the participants consists of 3 parts. In the first part, there are 12 items which are designed for the determination of participant demographic characteristics. In the second part, there are 25 items for the determination of participants' attitudes towards the sports. In the third part, there 39 items in order to determine participants' opinions on the women participation in sport events. The validity and reliability of the measurement tools are provided by their developers. T-test used for determining whether there is a difference between the participants' opinions according to their gender whereas One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used for determining whether there is difference between participants' opinions according to other variables. As a result of the research, it is found out that the attitudes of Bartın University students towards the sports and their opinions on the women participation in sports are positive. As a result of the tests which are performed in order to determine whether there is a difference between the personal information and the scale score of participant students, it is found that there is no statistically significant difference between the 'attitudes towards the sport and opinions on women participation in sport events' and variables regarding to 'age, alma mater, parents educational background, family income level, accommodation type and general state of health'. On the other hand, statistically significant differences were found between the variables of 'gender, Faculty, Department, Class and exercising' and 'attitudes towards the sport and opinions on women participation in sport events'.
