Loneliness feelings of university students in personal and social characteristicts, anger expression levels

Sibel Türküm The purpose of this study was to investigate whether loneliness feelings of university students change according to personal and social charaeterislicts. trait of anger and anger expression levels. The dala was obtained from a total of 578 Anadolu Universty students from each of four grades in the study. The loneliness feelings of the subject were assessed by UCİ.A Loneliness Scale and anger levels of subject were examined by means of Anger Expression Styles Scale. A personal information form, which was developed by the researcher, was used in order to collect the data related to the independent variables of the study. Statistical analyses of the data were done by using "SPSS 10 for windows", for the analyses of data, t test for independent groups and one-way ANOVA were conducted. The control of the homogeneity of the variances in the analyses was conducted by Levene test. Tukey-HSD test was conducted when the results of ANOVA were significant. Significance level was taken as.05 for all statistical analyses. IVWhen the finding were examined, loneliness feelings of males were found significantly higher than those of females. When the loneliness feelings of university students were compared in term of classes, residences, reasons of internet usage, significant differences were not obtained. Loneliness feelings of university students, who do not like themselves, not satisfied with their own life and pessimistic about their future were higher than those liking themselves, satisfied with their own life and optimistic about their future. Significant differences were found in term of loneliness feelings of university students according to social characteristics such as their relationship with their parents, having a date, self-perception of initiating and maintenance of peer relationship, individuals they share their problems and their reactions in to difficulties. Loneliness feelings of university student having a problem with their parents were higher than those who do not have any problem with their parents. The loneliness feelings were also high with the university student without a dale, and who were unsuccessful in initiating and maintening peer relationship than those with a date and who were succesful in initiating and maintening peer relationship. Sini (leant differences were found in term of loneliness feelings of university students according to the anger expression styles and internalization and control of anger. Whereas the relationship between subject loneliness feelings and externalization anger not significant. The result were discussed in terms of the relationship letaralure related with the variables. Some important implications for the guidance of counseling area were discussed and recommendations were made for future research.
