Examining the levels of love-addiction among female universitystudents in terms of sociodemographic variables

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the levels of love-addiction among female students at university and to examine the relationship between love-addiction levels and certain socio-demographic characteristics to identify risk factors. Material and Methods: This study was conducted as a quantitative research based on the correlational survey model. The dependent variable of the research is the level of love-addiction, whereas the independent variables are socio-demographic variables. The data of the study were collected from 284 students using the Spann Fisher Relationship Dependency Scale and the Socio-demographic Information Form. The data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation, T-test, and One-way ANOVA tests in the SPSS 15.0 program. Results: Significant relationships were found between the levels of love-addiction and age, economic level, close relationship within the family, introverted and antisocial personality traits, anxiety and depression, the need for psychological support during the post-romantic relationship breakup period, and substance use, including smoking or alcohol consumption among students. Conclusion: While increasing age serves as a protective factor in experiencing love-addiction among female students, low economic level is a risk factor. Furthermore, close relationships within the family act as a protective factor in love-addiction dependency. Introverted and antisocial personality traits, as well as an anxious and depressive mood, are influential factors in developing love-addiction. Love-addiction leads to psychological problems during the post-romantic relationship breakup period. Drug addiction is effective in developing love-addiction, while love-addiction triggers drug addiction during the post-romantic relationship breakup period.
